Kardelen No30: A Modern Villa with Timeless Elegance

Seda Kalac's Award-Winning Design Balances Dark Tones and Warm Wood Accents

In an era where the home has become more than just a living space, Seda Kalac's Kardelen No30, a modern villa, stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of natural and technological materials. This design, which won the Iron A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022, is a perfect example of how a home can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The Kardelen No30 is a three-story villa with an indoor usage area of 340 square meters. It was designed to meet the needs of a family of four and was completed in six months. The design language of the villa is consistent throughout, from the entrance to the last floor, creating a sense of unity and integrity. The dark tones that dominate the villa are balanced with timeless choices and the warmth of wood, creating a modern yet cozy atmosphere.

What sets this design apart is the careful selection of both visible and invisible structural materials. The entrance features state-of-the-art glossy ceramics in 120 x 240 cm dimensions, while the living area and rooms have natural wooden parquet on the floor. The walls are adorned with paint and wood paneling, and the ceiling features a lath and cardboardpier application. The bathrooms boast 60 x 120 cm ceramics, and the kitchen island counter has 120 x 360 cm durable and state-of-the-art ceramics. These details, combined with the rare application of natural wooden details on the ceiling and wall, add warmth to the environment.

The villa was delivered under construction, and new spaces were designed according to the functions. The ground floor houses an open kitchen with pantry, living room, a game room, and bathroom. The second floor features a master bedroom and its bathroom, kid room and its bathroom, home office, and laundry room. The attic houses a bedroom, a bathroom, a storage, living area, kitchenette, and a large terrace.

The design process was not without its challenges. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were long delays in the supply of materials. As a result, the design team primarily used local materials and avoided imported products. Despite these challenges, the project, which started in January 2021 in Ankara, was completed in July 2021.

The Kardelen No30 is a testament to Seda Kalac's ability to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. The design is a perfect blend of modern and timeless elements, with a consistent design language throughout. It is no surprise that this design won the Iron A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022, a testament to its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature.
